In Santa Barbara, the breakfast crowd peaks on Saturday and Sunday mornings, so a weekday visit or an early arrival avoids the line. Across California, regional staples show up on the menu: biscuits and gravy and chicken and waffles in the South, breakfast tacos and burritos in Texas and the Southwest, green chile in New Mexico, and Hawaiian plate breakfasts in the islands. Check the listing for hours, whether the restaurant takes reservations and its Google rating and reviews, and note that many diners are cash-friendly but nearly all take cards. Counter seating usually moves faster than a table for one or two.
Hours are published for 7 days a week. On most of those days it is open 7 am–2:30 pm. Hours in the United States do change around federal holidays and long weekends, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. You can reach Chad’s Cafe at (805) 965-3269; calling is usually the quickest way to ask about availability, prices or directions. More information is available on its website, chadscafe.com.

Santa Barbara is in California, on the West Coast, where the climate ranges from foggy coast to hot inland valleys, wildfire season can affect air quality in late summer, and traffic is the main thing to plan around. Getting around Santa Barbara is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across California's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

Chad's Cafe had great reviews so we gave it a try for our first visit to Santa Barbara. It was on our itinerary for our round trip train ride from SLO to Santa Barbara. It's a 15 minute walk from the train station. We were surprised to be seated right away at a table with great views of the beach and the Pier. Our server Tatum was fantastic, very friendly, upbeat, sociable, with a bubbly personality. The breakfast was delicious. Hubby had the Santa Barbara omelet and I had the waffle with fresh strawberries. The wsit to be served was under 10 minutes. Tatum came by several times to check in us. She introduced to her coworker and friend who was just as nice. The interior decor was modern. Seating was indoors or outdoors. Free street parking.

My girlfriend and I stopped by Chad’s Café to start our morning before heading to the beach, and it was the perfect way to kick off the day. I ordered the veggie omelet with hash browns, and it was a satisfying breakfast. The mushrooms were especially delicious, the omelet was nice and cheesy, and after adding a little seasoning, all of the flavors really came together. The hash browns were crispy and made a great addition to the meal. My friend ordered the eggs and meat combo, and we were both pleasantly surprised that our breakfasts came with a small stack of pancakes. The pancakes were fluffy, lightly sweet, and a delicious bonus that rounded out the meal. One of my favorite parts about Chad’s Café is its location. It’s just steps from the beach, so after finishing breakfast, we were able to walk right over and spend the rest of the morning by the ocean. If you’re planning a beach day in Santa Barbara, this is the perfect place to fuel up beforehand. The food was comforting, the portions were generous, and the location couldn’t be more convenient. I’d definitely stop by again the next time I’m in Santa Barbara.

Hands down the absolute best gluten free pancakes I’ve ever had. They had a vanilla fragrance and the butter was generously shared, dense and perfectly salted. They didn’t skimp on the quality maple syrup either. And the pancakes were just a side to my Santa Barbara omelette! I may have to create reasons to drive up from San Diego 🤩

Just amazing! Plan your stay in Santa Barbara around Chad's: you will not be disappointed. I had the killer breakfast burrito with added sausage and choice of hash browns, and a cappuccino and Sprite. From the moment I approached the café until saying my goodbyes, I was made to feel like their most valued customer - which is most impressive, give how busy they were on a Monday morning. I was by myself and offered a seat at the bar: bar seating has excellent views of the beach and pedestrian activity outside, but also let me observe the staff turnover _hundreds_ of covers very, very quickly. They appear to have a two-person check system before they send any food: they really do have a good focus on quality control and working efficiently. They had plenty of staff on shift. The Chad's staff must be the most attractive people in the entire state of California: they were a joy to watch at work. Most importantly: they were all very friendly and enjoying banter amongst the guests and each other. The cappuccino was perfect and the burrito was incredible!

Fantastic breakfast. Everything we tried was delish. Highly recommended the breakfast quesadilla and the chicken sausage. This is a well-run place, clean, and the servers are lovely. Coffee hot and strong. Even though it's right across the street from the beach, it feels local, not touristy.
